Will Fireworks Go Off as Planned in Oconee County?

It looks as though Mother Nature is planning a few fireworks of her own this Fourth of July.

Update: A decision will be made by noon on Thursday.

From the OCPRD Facebook Page: "OCPRD will make a decision regarding postponing the fireworks and will notify the public by Noon tomorrow via our website, Facebook, Twitter and we will update our weather hotline at 706.769.2965. Rain Date: Saturday, July 6."

The current weather forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of rain on July 3 and July 4 with showers and the possibility of thunderstorms. A flash flood watch is also in effect through Friday. Rainfall amounts between 2 and 4 inches are possible.

So will fireworks light up the night's sky above Oconee Veterans Park on Independence Day?

Organizers of the second annual Oconee July 4th Spectacular say they're keeping an eye on the weather and will plan to make some decisions by Wednesday afternoon.

According to an FAQ document posted on the Oconee County Parks and Recreation Department's website, a rain date is planned for Saturday, July 6.

Presently the event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 and will include games and activities, live entertainment, a walking patriotic parade.   A fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. will close the festivities.

Do your Independence Day plans include attending the Oconee July 4th Spectacular?
