OCHS Tennis Sweeps Flowery Branch in Season Opener

The Warriors are scheduled to host Westminster of Atlanta at home on Friday.

Coach Dan Gruetter's OCHS Warrior tennis team got off to a good start Wednesday, with the girls and boys teams defeating visiting AAAAA Flowery Branch Falcons at the OCHS courts.

The boys breezed 5-0 over the Falcons, but the girls match went down to the wire, with the Lady Warriors needing a win at number one singles to preserve the win.Β

The Lady Warriors got just that from sophomore Jordan England, who dropped the first set 6-2, only to stage a major comeback, to win the second set 7-5, forcing the deciding match into a critical 10 point tiebreaker. In a match lasting close to dusk on the OCHS courts, which do not have lights, England pulled out a decisive 10-6 3rd set tie-breaker win, to give the OCHS ladies a 3-2 decision over the Lady Falcons. At number two singles, Katy Kane breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win, while the number two doubles duo of Kimberly Case and Erin Horsley won 7-6, 6-3.

The Warrior boys blanked the visiting Falcon team 5-0. Will McDonald won at number one singles 6-2, 6-1; Drew Horsley took care of business at number two with a 6-4, 6-0 win, while Zach Miner won three singles 6-4, 6-2 to round out the singles. At number one doubles, Dan Madden and Hunter Pritchard won 6-1, 6-4. Mitchell Graves and Chandler Shields won at two doubles 6-3, 6-2.Β
