Lady Warriors Tennis Loses to Woodward Academy

OCHS Girls' season ends with second round AAA playoff loss at home.

The Lady Warriors tennis team fell 3-0 Tuesday afternoon to Woodward Academy's visiting Lady War Eagles, in the second round of the state AAA playoffs.

The young 2012 Lady Warrior team, which includes three freshmen and two sophomores in their starting lineup of seven, fought valiantly against an excellent Woodward team that offered the strongest overall opposition of the year to the Oconee lady netters. The Woodward Academy team proved to be every bit as strong as advertised, as they thwarted early Lady Warrior momentum at the three singles spots to turn back the host Lady Warriors and bring their post season run to a close.

Coach Dan Gruetter's girls tennis team finished 2012 with plenty of accomplishments and momentum to create need for great optimism in 2013. The Lady Warriors Β chalked up an impressive 19-4 overall record. In addition, the OCHS girls claimed the Region 8-AAA crown yet again, and like their male counterparts on the boys' team, did so with a perfect 15-0 record, including a total of 6 wins over region rivals Gainesville and West Hall. Also, an interesting side note, within all of 2012's 8-AAA region match wins during the season, the Lady Warriors ammassed 61 total game wins venus only 8 individual game losses the entire season.

Dan Gruetter's 2012 Lady Warriors were led by Juniors Lizzie Coram, Kimberly Case and Macy Bird; sophomores Katy Kane and Caroline McElhannon and Kayla Bannister, as well as Freshmen Ivy Do, Megan Morris and Jordan England. In addition, Terry Gattiker served as Assistant Coach for the Lady Warriors.
