OCHS Girls, Boys Tennis Stay Unbeaten in Region

The Warrior tennis teams host Walnut Grove on Tuesday.

The Warrior girls' and boys' tennis teams both picked up two wins each this week to remain unbeaten in Region 8-AAA play.

The Lady Warrior tennis team notched two more crucial region wins this past week to remain unbeaten in region play at 8-0 and 10-2 overall. Their wins came at Johnson of Gainesville 4-1 on Tuesday and at home against Gainesville 4-1 on Wednesday.

In the Johnson match, Jordan England won 6-0, 7-5 at no.1 and Caroline McElhannon won 6-3, 6-0 at no. 2, to capture two singles points. The Lady Warriors swept doubles with Macy Bird and Kimberly Case winning 6-3, 6-3 at no. 1 and Megan Morris and Ivy Do winning 6-1, 6-0 at no 2.

In the Gainesville match, the Lady Warriors won at all three singles positions to win the match. Jordan England won 6-2, 6-0 at no.1, Caroline McElhannon won 6-2, 6-4 at no. 2, and Katy Kane won 6-2, 6-4 at no. 3. The Lady Warriors also posted a win at doubles with doubles with Megan Morris and Ivy Do winning 6-4, 7-5 at no 2.

The OCHS boys tennis team also remained unbeaten in region play this week, picking up two wins at Johnson of Gainesville 5-0 on Tuesday and at home against Gainesville 3-2 on Wednesday, taking their record to 8-0 in region play and 11-1 overall.

Against Johnson, the Warriors gave up just 6 games enroute to a sweep in all 5 matches. Sam Ondo won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 1, Will McDonald won 6-0, 6-0 at no. 2 and Conner Smith won at the 3 position 6-1, 6-0. In doubles, the combo of Zach Miner and Hunter Pritchard won 6-1, 6-1 at 1 and Dan Madden and Mitchell Graves won at no. 2.

At home on Wednesday against visiting Gainesville, the Warriors got wins at the 1 and 2 singles positions and at the 2 doubles position to edge the Red Elephants 3-2.

In singles, Sam Ondo got the clinching in at no.1 with a tight win 7-6, 6-3, while Will McDonald won 6-0, 6-3 at 2. The doubles pair of Dan Madden and Chandler Shields won 6-1, 6-3 at the 2 position.

OCHS plays Walnut Grove at home Tuesday.
