New Oconee Middle School Assistant Principal Named

Principal Judy Marable says Oconee County High School Engineering and Technology teacher Cameron Smith will fill the role.

Several have taken place within the Oconee County School System this year.  Last week, started his new role as principal of and Judy Marable stepped up as principal of .

Following an executive session last week, the Board of Education approved Cameron Smith, current Oconee County High School teacher, for the promotion.  Marable made the announcement on the school's website on May 4.  Here is what she had to say:

"We have great news to share with you!  
 
"Dr. Jackson recommended to our Board of Education that Dr. Cameron Smith be approved as our Assistant Principal for the 2011-2012 school year.  Dr. Smith currently teaches Engineering and Technology as well as Business Courses at in the CTAE program.  
 
"Dr. Smith will bring a wealth of technology expertise to support us as we prepare our students for the technological world of today and tomorrow. I am confident that his ability to relate to high school students and staff will support us as we continue to guide our students with secondary and post secondary career plans. 
 
"Additionally, he has middle school teaching experience and has worked with many committees of teachers to improve student achievement. He is a supporter of student organizations and expects students to be active participants in their education.  As a veteran educator, Dr. Smith values the expertise of teachers and strives to support the teachers as they work with students on a daily basis.
 
"Mr. Barnette and I look forward to having Dr. Smith join our team to support our students, faculty, staff, parents and community. More importantly,  Dr. Smith is thrilled to have this opportunity to support our school community at OCMS.  I can hardly wait for you to meet him! 
 
"Please join me in welcoming Dr. Smith to our team!"
