Two Candidates Vie for Oconee Tax Commissioner Position

The race for Oconee's next tax commissioner is contested.

Earlier this year, after completion of her eighth term, leaving the seat vacant.

Deputy tax commissioner Jennifer Riddle, who expressed interest in the office right away, qualified on Thursday. The Oconee Enterprise reported she must take a leave of absence during the campaign.

Riddle will go up against attorney Pamela Hendrix, who tossed her hat into the ring on Friday, the final day of the qualifying period.  Hendrix tried unsuccessfully to oust Western Circuit Superior Court Judge David Sweat in 2010. She was also one of 15 to apply for the vacancy left by Judge Steve Jones in 2011 for the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.

Riddle and Hendrix both qualified as Republicans and will face off in the July 31st primary.
