Sen. Saxby Chambliss' Comment on Gay Marriage Gets Attention of Stephen Colbert

Retiring Republican U.S. Sen Saxby Chambliss recently responded to a reporter's question on gay marriage by saying, "I'm not gay. So I'm not going to marry one."

That comment got the attention of Stephen Colbert, host of the satirical "Colbert Report" on ComedyCentral. The comedian singled out Chambliss, who this week was named the University of Georgia's spring commencement speaker, in a six-minute segment on the gay marriage debate.

The Huffington Post has the video segment, in which Colbert called attention to narcissistic policymaking. His tongue-in-cheek proclamation: "Nothing is worth fighting for unless it's happening to you."

Colbert has won a couple of UGA-sponsored Peabody Awards, but he wasn't among this year's winners announced Wednesday.

Chambliss announced in January that he won't be seeking a third term in the Senate. Among those seeking to replace him is 10th District Republican Rep. Paul Broun, who represents most of Athens.
