Qualifying Ends with No Opposition for Council Posts in Watkinsville

There's no need for an election this year.

Watkinsville Mayor Charles Ivie will serve a second two-year term. The incumbent was the lone candidate to qualify last week, according to city manager Julie Sanders.

Post 1 Councilman Brian Brodrick and Post 2 Councilwoman Connie Massey also qualified without opposition, therefore no general election will be necessary this fall, Sanders said.

The new terms for Ivie, Brodrick and Massey will begin on Jan. 1, 2014 and expire on Dec. 31, 2015.

Additionally, Marcia Campbell was the only person to qualify to fill the unexpired term of Toby Smith (Post 3), who moved outside of the city limits.Β  She'll take office on Nov. 13 and serve through Dec. 31, 2014, Sanders said.
