Oconee Weekend Update

Check out this list for your New Year's options!

The weekend looks to be beautiful - weather-wise! Forecasters are saying that Saturday's weather will be sunny with a high near 63 during the day, but partly cloudy during the evening as you head out for your New Year's festivities, with lows in the upper 30’s.  

If you're looking for something closer-to-home than downtown Atlanta to bring in the New Year, check out these options. 

2012 Athens New Year's Eve Party at the Bad Manor  8:00 pm  until 2:00 am. 346 E Broad St, Athens, GA, $7  There will be a 2012 cash drop at midnight, snow and confetti machines, lights and lasers, $1 champagne all night, free party gear and more. DJ RX will be mixing it up all night!

New Year's Eve Masquerade Ball at The Capital Room  All day  247 E Washington St, Athens, GA. Don't miss this second annual New Year's Eve Masquerade Ball. There is no cover charge and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight.

MartyParty NYE Bash with DubConscious and Trogdor 8:30 pm  227 W Dougherty St, Athens, GA, $25. Don't miss South African bass bomber MartyParty and Athen's reggae heavy hitters DubConscious and special guest Trogdor. Get your tickets and rock in the new year! $20 advance tickets available online.

This New Year’s Eve, indulge yourself with fabulous cocktails and dance to live music from Bullet Proof in the Rialto Room at the . The New Year's Eve Blowout Package, which includes a hotel room and champagne toast at midnight, is just $199 per couple. 

Mother’s Finest is bringing their unique blend of funky rhythm, heavy guitars and expressive R&B singing at Melting Point! All-Access and Center-Stage room and show packages are available as well as General Admission ($25) tickets. Caroline Aiken starts off the music at 8:30 pm, Mother's Finest around 10 pm. This will be a standing-room-only show and limited seating will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. We've heard that the Foundry is booked up, but there are still tickets available for the show. 

The is offering special Prixe Fixe Dinners Dec. 27 - Jan. 4. Chef Hugh Acheson has all the info, so visit his blog to find out what is on the menu. 

NYE Feast and Fête at Farm 255, a 4-course prixe fixe with complimentary champagne for $45. Guests may also order à la carte. Quiet Hooves will take the stage at 11p, and the bar will be open until 2am. Reserve your table here

NEW YEARS DAY

New Year's Day weather continues the mostly sunny trend, but windy with a 20% chance of rain. Highs in the low 60’s and then dropping to the lower 30’s during the evening hours.

Fifth Annual New Years at Noon 5K Sunday, January 1, at Sandy Creek Park - 400 Bob Holman Rd, Athens, GA. The race begins at noon and proceeds from the event will benefit the new Trail Head at Sandy Creek Nature Center named in memory and honor of Will Chamberlin. Registration is $25 until race day.

UGA Women's Basketball vs. Arkansas, Sunday, January 1, 2:00 pm  100 Smith St, Athens, GA, $5  The Georgia Bulldogs women's basketball team takes on Arkansas at 2 p.m. on Jan. 1.

NOTE: Oconee Library will be closed Sunday, January 1 through Monday, January 2 to celebrate the New Year. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, January 3rd at 10:00 a.m.
