Local Democrats to Elect National Convention Delegates

One of three delegate trainings will be held in Bishop later this month.

The following is a news release from the Oconee County Democratic Committee:

Democrats all over Georgia have begun the process of selecting delegates to the Democratic National Convention which will be held September 3-6, 2012. Of the 124 delegates from Georgia , the 10th Congressional District will send five - three men and two women.

“It’s going to be an incredibly exciting four days just up the road in Charlotte, NC, ending with President Obama’s acceptance speech,” said Patsy Harris, chairman of the 10th Congressional District for the Democratic Party of Georgia. “We welcome all Democrats to take this opportunity of representing the district in September.”

Each candidate for convention delegate must be at least 17½ years old, a registered voter in District 10, and a Democrat. Anyone who would like to learn more about the process is invited to attend one of three training sessions in the district later this month. Forms and further details will be distributed at that time.

  1. February 23, Thursday, 6-8PM. Bishop Community Center, in the church building on Hwy 441 in downtown Bishop, 3 miles south of Watkinsville. Address: , GA 30621
  2. February 25, Saturday, 9-11AM. Stephens County Senior Center , 3 miles southeast of downtown Toccoa. Address: 55 Haley Dr. , Toccoa , GA 30577
  3. February 26, Sunday, 3-5PM. Lincoln County Library in downtown Lincolnton. Address: 181 N. Peachtree St . , Lincolnton , GA 30817

The formal election of the five delegates from District 10 will be held at the Morgan County High School in Madison  on Saturday, April 21.
