Watkinsville Police: Catalytic Converters Cut

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Watkinsville Police are investigating multiple reports of catalytic converters removed from vehicles.

On Saturday, June 30,  someone cut the catalytic converters off three vehicles parked at Service Masters, according to Police Chief Lee O'Dillon's weekly news release. One was also cut from a vehicle at Webber Coleman Woodworks and another from a truck at Certified Clean Care. All three businesses are located on Business Boulevard, which is off Morrison Street. Police have several leads, he said.

  • Police and medical units were called to Cedar Hill Circle on Monday, June 25 around 6 p.m. concerning a 19-year-old woman who was screaming, attempting to fight with neighbors, and saying that she wanted to die. A boyfriend told authorities that the woman is a mental health patient and her medication is not working. National EMS transported the woman to Athens Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
  • Just before 5:30 p.m. on June 25, a motorcycle rider lost control of his 2006 Kawasaki 900-Z  on VFW Drive at the steep hill and curve. The bike struck the guard rail but the 46-year-old rider was not seriously injured. No other vehicles were involved.
  • A 2004 Hyundai Sante Fe backed into a parked 1998 Buick LeSabre at the Watkinsville Post Office parking lot on June 26 around noon. No one was injured and only minor damage was done.
  • Police were called to Colham Ferry Extension on Thursday, June 27 at 2 p.m. where two neighbors were in the midst of an ongoing dispute over a property line.  On April 3, police advised the property owners to review their property plats. If they were not satisfied, they could hire a land surveyor to re-examine the property line issue. Those suggestions had not been followed and the disagreement continues.
  • Friday, June 29 at 2:28 p.m., police were called to South Main Street, near Memory Station, where a 2003 Ford F-150 was hit from behind by a 2007 Ford Explorer. No one was injured but both vehicles were damaged.  A 52-year-old Athens woman was charged with following too closely,  driving with an expired tag, and no insurance.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between June 25 and July 1.
