Watkinsville Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville police department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Oct.16.

  • At 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 10, a 2000 V.W. Beetle was bumped from behind by a 1997 Toyota Avalon on Court Street in downtown. No one was injured.
  • Late Friday night, Oct. 14,  a 2009 Ford struck a large deer on South Main Street at New High Shoals Road.  There was only minor damage to the car and the driver was not injured.
  • On Oct. 15 around 11:15 a.m., police were dispatched to a domestic situation at a McRee Street residence after one person refused to leave. Justin L. Jones, 30, was arrested on an outstanding warrant and turned over to the Oconee County Sheriff’s Department.
  • Early Sunday morning, Oct. 16, officers observed a 2006 Dodge Ram driving off the edge of  Whitehall Road and crossing over the center line. Police stopped the truck at Third Street. Christopher Shawn Hartman, 26, of Curtis Drive, Athens, was charged with DUI and failure to maintain lane.

Police responded to a total of 36 calls within city limits between Monday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct.16.
