Watkinsville Police Blotter: Downed Tree Crushes Mustang

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville Police Department.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending Dec. 11.

  • On Monday, Dec. 5 around 7 a.m., the driver of a 202 Ford F-350 backed from a driveway and struck a parked 2000 Honda Passport on Simonton Drive. The Honda suffered heavy damage. No one was injured.
  • Police responded to North Main Street at White Street on Tuesday at 4:35 p.m after a chain reaction crash. The driver of a 2000 Buick Century, traveling southbound, slammed into the rear of a stopped 2002 Toyota 4-Runner. The 4-Runner was forced into the back of a 2011 Toyota Rav-4, which then struck the rear of a 1998 Nissan Maxima, which was attempting to make a left turn. All four vehicles suffered heavy damage. None of the drivers required medical treatment. Traffic was disrupted for a short while. A 23-year-old Athens man was cited with following too closely.
  • As a strong wind storm passed through the area Wednesday afternoon, a few trees and large limbs were downed. A 1997 Ford Mustang was crushed by a falling tree while parked outside of a North Main Street residence.
  • A Friday morning traffic stop resulted in charges filed against a Bishop’s Vineyard woman. At 12:20 a.m. on Dec. 9, police stopped the driver of a V.W. Jetta for traveling at a high rate of speed on Harden Hill Road. After failing sobriety a 26-year-old resident of Niagra Drive, was charged with speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between Monday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec 11.
