Officers made an arrest for simple assault, settled a dispute over a "stolen" pack of cigarettes, and investigated a traffic accident where one person suffered a minor injury.

In his weekly news release, Chief Lee O'Dillon recapped some of the incidents that police responded to during the week ending March 6.

  • In the late evening on Feb. 28, police responded to a domestic situation at 1350 Christian Drive in Christian Lake Subdivison.  Mathew W. Corvin, 42, was arrested and charged with simple assault, O'Dillon reported.
  • On March 1, officers were dispatched to the Luxury Inn at 173 South Main Street for a dispute about an alleged stolen pack of cigarettes between two motel rooms.  One of the individuals involved agreed to pay for smokes, O'Dillon said.
  • Police advised a tenant to remove possessions after the individual was evicted from a Cedar Drive property on March 1, O' Dillon stated.
  • Officers investigated a two-car accident that occurred on Main Street near Town Center at 7:55 p.m. on March 3.  One person suffered a minor injury and both vehicles were damaged.  One of the drivers was issued a citation for following too closely, O'Dillon said.
  • Police responded to a VFW drive residence after neighbors complained of "yelling and screaming" in the early evening on March 5.  A woman was yelling at her former boss over the telephone, and officers stood nearby until a friend could oversee the woman, O'Dillon reported.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 33 calls within city limits between Monday, Feb. 28  and Sunday, March 6, O'Dillon said.
