Van Runs Red Light, Strikes Two Vehicles in Watkinsville

Only one minor injury was reported.

Watkinsville Police were called to the intersection of Main Street and Whitehall Road on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 9:02 a.m. in response to a three-vehicle traffic accident.

A 2004 Ford van was  attempting to cross from Harden Hill Road over to Whitehall Road with the green traffic signal when a 2012 Hyundai Sonata drove through the red light traveling north on Main Street.  After striking the side of the Hyundai, the Ford van then hit a 2013 Chevrolet Express van, which was attempting to exit Whitehall Road onto Main Street.

The driver of the Hyundai was slightly injured. Police charged a 55-year-old Commerce man with running a red light.

During the past week city police also responded to domestic situation calls on North  Third Street and on Hight Drive.  Both situations were calmed for the time being.
