Sheriff's Deputies Disarm Suicidal Man
The man was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation after a 15-minute standoff on Rays Church Road Tuesday morning.
A Sheriff's deputy used an electronic control device to disarm a man threatening suicide after a 15-minute standoff at a Rays Church Road home on Tuesday.
Around 11:15 a.m., deputies answered a call of a suicide attempt where a man reportedly had a pistol and access to a rifle, Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the reported.
Officials found the man in the yard, and he occasionally would walk up onto a porch, Weems explained in an email. One deputy spoke with the man on the phone while another used an electronic control device -- the generic term for a Taser --Β to immobilize the man, he said.

"The deputy managed to sneak in behind him and get a clear shot with his [electronic control device]," Weems wrote.Β "Other deputies rushed in and secured the individual."
The man was transported to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, Weems noted. He has not been charged with any criminal act and the man never threatened deputies with a weapon, Weems added.
