Sheriff's Office Investigating Sexual Assault

A woman was reportedly attacked early Sunday morning in a car on Tarpley Lane.

Investigators with the are working on a case of sexual assault reported Sunday morning.

A woman told authorities she had been at Allgood bar on Clayton Street in Athens with friends and was about to leave around 2 a.m. when she realized she had left her cell phone upstairs.  She said when she returned, her friends were gone and a man in a white car resembling a Porsche offered to give her a ride to an Oconee County residence. The woman told deputies she talked with the man for a few minutes and decided it would be okay.

During the ride, the man allegedly tried to touch the woman between the legs.  He then stopped the vehicle on Tarpley Lane, reached between the victim's legs and asked her to touch him, according to the incident report.

The woman got out of the car, leaving her white, new model iPhone inside.  She asked the man to return it, but says he refused and drove away.  The woman then knocked on several doors in search of help and deputies met with her at a 1900 block address of Mars Hill.

She described her attacker as a white male about 30-years-old with brown hair and a mustache, 5'9" and 150 pounds.

Attempts were made to trace the cell phone, but it may have been disabled, deputies reported.  They searched the crime scene and both sides of Mars Hill Road and Daniels Bridge Road, but were unable to locate the phone.
