Watkinsville Man Charged with Possession of Xanax

Raymond Cole McDaniel was arrested following a traffic stop Thursday on Hardigree Bell Road. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies say they found Xanax pills and marijuana cigars in a Watkinsville man's pocket Thursday during a traffic stop.

According to an incident report, a woman called authorities around 6 p.m. Thursday to report her son was driving even though he shouldn't have been. Acting on the information and being familiar with the suspect, deputies pulled over a green Honda Accord in the 1000 block area of Hardigree Bell Road.

The driver -- Raymond Cole McDaniel, 20 -- was taken into custody on a charge of driving while license suspended. During a search, deputies report they found a pack of cigarettes containing three partially smoked marijuana cigars in McDaniel's front, left jeans pocket and also located a clear bag containing five blue, oval-shaped pills identified as Xanax in his possession.

In addition to the charge of driving on a suspended license, McDaniel was booked into the Oconee County Jail for a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act for possession of a schedule IV drug.

The small amount of marijuana was destroyed, according to the report, and the pills were entered into evidence.
