Police: Burglar Pries Open Door of Attic Treasures, Steals Antique Coins

An 18-year-old Watkinsville man has been charged in connection with the crime. An arrest isn't a conviction.

A Watkinsville man is accused of breaking into a downtown business and taking antique coins.

Watkinsville Police Chief Lee O'Dillon in a news release said that police responded to a burglar alarm at Attic Treasures on North Main Street just before 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3. Officers found that the back door had been pried open.

"Someone had gained entry to the business but the audible alarm may have caused the intruder to flee quickly," O'Dillon noted in the release.

The business owner determined that some pieces of collector currency had been stolen from a display case.

Police say they reviewed the store’s video surveillance and identified the intruder.
The following day, Caleb Stephen Daniels, 18, of Jackson Terrace was charged with burglary and felony theft by taking.

The antique money was recovered, O'Dillon said.
