Pet Shop Employee Accused of Pocketing Cash From Register

The following information was obtained from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. An arrest does not mean a conviction.

An employee of was arrested Saturday, charged with theft after 's deputies say video surveillance captured the man stealing three times from the shop's cash register.

The store's owner told deputies the employee was returning items from within the store and putting money into his pocket in order to avoid making the cash register come up short.

Video footage showed the man taking $74.89 on Sept. 15, $37.44 on Sept. 20 and $64.19 on Sept. 22, deputies noted in an incident report.

Ryan Eric Shockney, 20, of Laurel Chase Run, was charged with three counts of theft by taking. Additionally Shockney faces a charge for being in possession of a false ID.Β  Deputies said Shockney had a fake Florida driver's license in his real name and bearing his photo, but with a false birth date.
