One Injured in Sunday Morning Crash in Watkinsville

The following information was supplied by the Watkinsville, Ga. police department.

Watkinsville police and medical units responded to Whitehall Road at Third Street on Sunday morning where a 1998 Ford Crown Victoria had pulled into the path of a eastbound 2002 Mazda 626. 

The driver of the Mazda was taken by ambulance to Athens Regional Medical Center.  Both cars suffered heavy damage in the accident that happened around 10:30 a.m., according to a news release from Police Chief Lee O'Dillon.

A 20-year-old Athens woman was charged with failure to yield to the right of way.

O'Dillon also noted the following incidents:

  • Around 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado backed into a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser on Main Street near the Town Center complex.  No one was injured and only minor damage was reported.  A Nicholson man, 39, was charged with improper backing.
  • Police responded to a Taylor’s Drive address on Friday around 10:30 a.m. where a mother and her 19-year-old son were in a heated argument. The disagreement erupted when the son refused to go to his scheduled drug abuse treatment. After police became involved the teenager decided to go to the substance abuse clinic.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 29 calls within city limits between Feb. 4-10, 2013.
