The body of an adult white female was found alongside Simonton Bridge Road Wednesday afternoon, Chief Deputy Lee Weems of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Deputies and the Georgia State Patrol were on the scene along with the coroner, he said, but a cause of death has not yet been determined.

"We'll work it as if it were a homicide as we do in any unattended death [until proven otherwise]," Weems said.

The 911 call came in about 2:30 p.m. and the section of road between Broadlands Drive and Norton Road was shut down once law enforcement arrived. It was reopened at 5 p.m., according to a notice from the Sheriff's Office.

Patch will provide updates as new information becomes available.
