Oconee County Grand Jury Hands Down Indictments in Multiple Cases

Criminal indictments are not evidence of guilt; they are only charges. Defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

The following are indictments returned by the September 2012 term of the Oconee County Grand Jury that were filed with the Clerk of Superior Court on July 19, 2013:

  • David Chris Kelley, 34, of Athens was indicted on one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes.  The indictment alleges that in August 2012, Kelley took a child under the age of sixteen from a location in Oconee County to his residence in Athens for the purpose of indecent acts.
  • Billy Joe Hanley, 33, of Moreland Drive was indicted on two counts of burglary in the first degree and two counts of burglary in the second degree. He is accused of entering a home on Malcom Bridge Road and another on Watson Springs, and also burglarizing storage sheds on the properties in May.
