Oconee County Deputies Help Athens Drug Task Force with Trafficking Case

Two Covington residents are charged with trafficking cocaine. An arrest isn't a conviction.

Two Covington residents were booked into the Oconee County Jail last Friday on drug trafficking charges after Oconee County Sheriff's deputies assisted the Drug Task Force in Athens with their arrests.

Around 2:15 p.m. on June 14, a detective with the Drug Task Force asked the OCSO to be on the lookout for a 2007 silver Honda Accord traveling east on US Highway 78.

The detective gave the deputies the names of the suspects in the car and said he had reason to believe the pair was transporting illegal narcotics into the county, according to an incident report.

Deputies spotted the car shortly before 3 p.m. near GA Highway 53, verified the tag number and initiated a traffic stop.  Members of theDrug Task Force arrived and conducted an investigation, but details about the investigation weren't specified in the report.

Tiant Tyron Quimby, 32, and Bonita Edwards, 38, were turned over to deputies to be transported to the Oconee County Jail and booked on charges of trafficking cocaine.  As of Thursday night, June 20, they remained behind bars.

The Honda was towed to the Athens-Clarke County Police impound lot and four cell phones were confiscated by the detective.  Other evidence was reportedly stored in lockers at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
