Law Enforcement Help Goat and Horse in Need
An Oconee County Sheriff's deputy assisted in rescuing a goat and Athens Clarke County Police stopped traffic while veterinary staff tended to a horse that fell out of a trailer.
It wasn't what he expected to encounter when he reported to duty, but during his shift Thursday, Deputy Josh Elrod of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office wound up with a goat in the back of his patrol truck.
According to the Sheriff's Office's Facebook Page, Elrod and a Good Samaritan came to the aid of the goat on Ga. Highway 316 near McNutt Creek Road where she was wondering with a bucket stuck on her head. He transported the goat -- later identified as Rosie -- in his patrol car to a farm where a citizen had agreed to care for her until her owner was contacted.
Happily Rosie's owners were reunited with her shortly after they called to report her missing, the Sheriff's Office reported.

But it wasn't the only incident in the area that involved a farm animal in need.
Earlier in the day, Athens Clarke County police directed traffic on the Athens Perimeter while veterinary staff came to the aid of Hot Rod - a horse that fell out of a stopped trailer. The Athens Banner-Herald reports Hot Rod was taken to the Large Animal Teaching Hospital at UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine and is expected to make a full recovery.
