Crime Report: No Brotherly Love Over Noodle Soup

The following information was gathered from Oconee County Sheriff's Office reports and highlights incidents reported Jan 30- Feb. 2.

Deputies say a cup of noodle soup was the source of a heated argument between two adult brothers on Wednesday that landed one of the men in jail on a charge of simple assault.

It happened at a Barnett Shoals Road home about 4 p.m. on Feb. 1.  Deputies were dispatched to a domestic disturbance call and arrived to find one of the brothers leaving the scene.  According to an incident report, the man said he was afraid of his brother because he has been assaulted by him on multiple occasions.  The man agreed to return to the residence accompanied by deputies where the two brothers began a verbal disagreement about what actually started the fight earlier in the day.

After speaking with the mother who witnessed the incident, "it was determined that a cup of Ramen Noodles was the source of the argument," a deputy noted in the report, adding that one brother had been upset because the other had eaten the flavor of soup he had wanted.

While at the home, deputies followed one of the men to the garage where he reportedly picked up a computer monitor and threw in on the ground, shattering it.  The same man was accused of punching his bedroom door and hurling the soup toward his brother earlier in the day, narrowly missing him.

The deputy wrote in the report that he noticed pieces of dried soup noodles on the floor and counter of the kitchen and contents of the soup splattered on the bathroom floor.
