OCHS Tennis Sweeps Jackson County

Gruetter Shuffles LIneup in Win Over Jackson County

Oconee Warrior tennis got back on the winning side Thursday, defeating Jackson County with a sweep of the girls and boys, in a home match played at the Warriors' courts. Coach Dan Gruetter moved the lineups around on both sides to in part out of necessity, but also to help develop depth and experience on both sides.

The Warrior Ladies won at all positions to defeat the Lady Panthers 5-0. The top two singles spots won easily as Jordan England won at #1 6-1, 6-1, while Katy Kane, playing #2, blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Meanwhile, Nancy Jackson, playing in her varsity match debut, won in an impressive three set comeback, 6-1, 1-6, 6-1. At doubles, Kimberly Case and Grace Mitchell won 6-3, 6-4 at #1 singles, while Megan Morris and Erin Horsely at #2 dubs, breezed 6-0, 6-2. The win improved the Lady Warriors region record to 3-1, 5-4 overall.

For the Warrior men, Will McDonald and Drew Horsley won 6-0, 6-0 at 1 and 2, while freshman Clay Malcom, playing in his first varsity match, took care of business with a winning debut 6-0, 6-1 at the #3 singles position. With Hunter Pritchard out due to illness, Coach Gruetter also changed his doubles lineup, placing Chandler Shields and Dan Madden together in the #1 doubles spot, where they coasted to a 6-2, 6-0 win. Regular #3 singles man Mitchell Graves, moved over to the #2 doubles spot, where he and Zach Miner also won impressively 6-0, 6-0. The Warrior boys kept their region record perfect winning their 4th match, and improved their overall record to 6-4.

The Warriors host highly touted Westminister Friday at 4pm at the OCHS courts in a non-region match.
