Johns Creek Police Officer Laid to Rest in Oconee

Funeral services were held Saturday at Briarwood Baptist Church for 46-year-old Watkinsville native Corporal Greg Whitaker of the Johns Creek Police Department, who died on March 2 following a brief illness.

Observers witnessed a long procession of fellow officers that led the way to Oconee Memorial Park on Saturday where Corporal Greg Whitaker of the Johns Creek Police Department was laid to rest.

During his 23-year career in law enforcement, he worked with the University of Georgia Police Department, was a reserve deputy for the , and also served with the Fulton County Police Department, Cobb County Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

Whitaker became an inaugural officer of the Johns Creek Police Department in 2008.

The City of Johns Creek announced the Greg Whitaker Memorial Golf Tournament β€œGuns and Hoses,” will take place at the St. Ives Country Club in Johns Creek on March 28.
