Oconee County Customers to Pay More For Water and Sewer Services

Oconee County water and sewer customers will begin paying higher rates on July 1 as part of the budget passed by the Oconee County Board of Commissioners.

Oconee County water and sewer customers will begin paying higher rates on July 1 as part of the budget passed by the Oconee County Board of Commissioners last Tuesday.

The base rate for residential water customers will go from $17.50 per month to $18.00, or an increase of 2.9 percent.

The base rate for residential sewer customers will go from $19.50 per month to $20.50, or an increase of 5.1 percent.

The new water and sewer rates where increased when the for the county for fiscal year 2013, which begins on July 1.

The approved Utility Department Budget shows a decrease in personnel costs, contract services and capital outlays.

It shows an increase of 2.1 percent in debt service, including an increase of 5.1 percent in payments for bonds for the planned Hard Labor Creek reservoir in Walton County.
