Rocky Branch Elementary HERO Club Talent Show raises $1,000 for local non-profit, ESP

RBES Hero Club is learning about disabilities and making a difference in their community.

While most fifth graders are focusing on their summer plans, this exceptional group put their energy into raising money for ESP.

The Rocky Branch Elementary School HERO Club held a Talent Show on April 30 and asked the audience to donate to local non-profit, Extra Special People. They raised $1010.08 for ESP and will be used for year-round operations. The HERO club consists of 35 fifth graders who have a passion for giving back to their community.

“One of the goals of the HERO Club at RBES is for me to educate the students on different disabilities and how we are all more alike than we are different,” HERO Club teacher, Jennifer Cannon said. “It is so exciting that these 5th graders made a choice to reach out and make a difference.”

Last year’s proceeds benefited the Tuberous Sclerosis Foundation. This year, the students choose ESP after Jennifer spoke with them about how ESP provides a place where these kids’ abilities are celebrated and their disabilities are left at the door.

“Opportunities like this are great exposure to kids at such a young age,” Executive Director, Laura Whitaker said. “We hope to continue providing opportunities for young kids to be involved and get to know our campers.”

Jennifer is  so proud of the HERO Club and so proud of all the participates in this year's talent show.
