'Perspectives' Features Ikebana Exhibit and Workshop This Weekend

Don't miss this year's new exhibit and workshop: Ikebana Flower Arrangement. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The workshop is only $25!

Perspectives: Georgia Pottery Invitational continues this weekend at the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF). There are still thousands of pots for sale as well as pottery demonstrations and gallery talks. One completely new addition this year is the Ikebana Flower Arrangement Exhibit on September 8 and 9. Complementing the exhibit is an Ikebana Flower Arrangement Workshop on the 8th from 10am to 12pm.

Ikebana is from the Japanese words ikeru and hana. Possible translations are “giving life to flowers” and “arranging flowers.” The ikebana approach is much more than simply placing a bunch of flowers in any container. It is a disciplined method of flower arranging where nature and humanity are brought together. Several members of the School of Ikebana Atlanta Chapter will exhibit displays using the ikebana concept at OCAF’s School Street Studios. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

The workshop will be conducted by Elaine Jo, who is a master instructor in the Ichiyo style of ikebana, holding an Executive Master Degree. She has traveled extensively throughout the United States giving workshops and demonstrations.
