Oconee Today -- Nov. 22

Pre-Black Friday sales and Thanksgiving takeout are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: Watch out for early morning patches of fog.  Mainly sunny skies are in today's National Weather Service forecast. Plan on high temperatures in the mid 70s and a 20 percent chance of afternoon rain showers.

Top things to know:

  • Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry is the guest speaker at this morning's meeting of the Rotary Club.  The meeting starts at 7 a.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center and includes a continental breakfast.  Guests are welcome to attend at a cost of $5 per person.
  • Many stores are getting a jump on Black Friday with deals starting today.  For example, Gap inside the Georgia Square Mall is offering up to 60 percent off everything in the store, according to an advertisement on Facebook.  .  Know of a good one?  Share the news in the comments below!
  • Are you hosting Thanksgiving dinner but not big on cooking?  Check out , an article in Athens Patch about area restaurants that are serving up whole meals to go.
  • The Oconee County Lions meet bimonthly in the Fellowship Hall at Briarwood Baptist Church.  Meetings take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month.
