Oconee Today -- Jan. 4

It was a tight race in Iowa Tuesday between GOP presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, the top two finishers. Were you glued to the news channels?

Weather: Another dose of sunshine and cold temperatures is in the forecast for Wednesday.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s, according to the Weather Channel.  There will be clear skies overnight and lows in the low 30s.

Top things to know:

  • The race for the GOP nomintation heated up in Iowa Tuesday where Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were neck-and-neck, the Huffington Post reports. Ron Paul finished third, followed by Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Michelle Bachmann. See more from the Iowa caucuses.
  • Winter break has come to an end for students of Oconee County Schools. Today is the first day back in the classroom.  Be sure to watch out for deputies as they direct school traffic in the mornings and afternoons.  Many of them now have
  • Volunteers with the Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission will be collecting Christmas trees at from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 7.  Trees will be turned into free mulch to be distributed to residents of Oconee County on Jan. 11.
