Oconee County to Help Residents Save on Prescription Drugs

Oconee County residents will soon have the opportunity to save on the cost of their prescription medications thanks to a new program known as Coast2Coast RX. All county residents, regardless of income, age and health, will be allowed to participate in this program which also includes pets. The Rx Card will not only help residents save on prescription drugs, the card also provides discounts on dental, vision, veterinary and hearing services plus discounts on lab and imaging tests and diabetes supplies and equipment for all family members.

Martin Dettelbach, Chief Marketing Officer of Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc., of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and the issuer of the Coast2Coast Rx free discount card, stated in a press release, “we are pleased to work with the County to help individuals, their families and pets combat the rising cost of healthcare.” Dettelbach added, “We appreciate all that the County and local pharmacies are doing to help those in need.”

There is no expense to the county in providing this free program. A recent press release from Financial Marketing Concepts explains, "Coast2Coast Rx will pay the County a royalty of $1.25 per prescription and the royalty does not increase cardholder cost.  The County will contribute any royalty received to a Not-for-Profit Charity to be determined by the Board of Commissioners."

Across the nation, Coast2Coast RX saved cardholders an average of 60 percent on the cost of prescription drugs in 2012. The County will distribute the RX card free of charge and the card may be used at all pharmacy chains and most independent pharmacies in Oconee County. Over 60,000 drugs are contained in the card's formulary.

“With healthcare costs on the rise, prescription drug discounts will help ease some of the financial burdens individuals and families are facing at a time when they need it the most,” stated Commissioner Melvin Davis, Chair of the Oconee Board of County Commissioners in the press release.  “There are no eligibility requirements so the Rx card is expected to have a sizable impact on uninsured residents or residents facing high insurance deductibles.  If a particular drug isn’t covered under a person’s health plan – they can use the card to save on those prescriptions.”

Other Georgia Counties currently using the program include Augusta-Richmond, Banks, Ben Hill, Charlton, Chatham, Greene, Habersham, Heard, Jones, Liberty, Monroe and Turner. Once this program is in place the Coast2Coast Rx cards will be available at most participating pharmacies, governmental offices, libraries and County health facilities. Residents will be able to print the Rx card and view participating locations online at www.coast2coastrx.com.
