AAHS Offers Internship Opportunities for Summer and Fall Semesters

The Athens Area Humane Society seeks a program assistant intern for the upcoming summer and fall semesters.

Objective: Assist the Outreach Coordinator with the Volunteer, Food Bowl and Humane Education programs, the donor database and development, and general administrative duties.

Location: Athens Area Humane Society, 1781 Mars Hill Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677

Supervision: Training and supervision by Outreach Coordinator

Commitment: Approximately 20 hours per week during the summer or fall 2013 semesters (one intern per semester). Start and end dates are dependent on the intern’s school schedule. Scheduled shifts during hours of operation will be set at the beginning of the semester.

Responsibilities:

Human Education Program

  • Prepare Humane Education resource materials to help expand the program.
  • Assist with and lead shelter tours and activities during scheduled group visits.

Food Bowl Program

  • Update Food Bowl recipient database and prepare food for distribution date.

Volunteer Program

  • Update volunteer schedules as needed and assist with volunteer recognition.
  • Assist with planning and implementing the annual volunteer party.

Donor Development

  • Record donations in the donor database, and prepare weekly mailings for donor recognition.

Special Events

  • Assist with preparation and implementation of special events as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • Positive and friendly attitude. Neat appearance and common courtesy habits.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as listening and speaking skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and to work independently.
  • Strong interest in animal welfare issues and the human-animal relationship.
  • Must be at least a third-year undergraduate student, preferably in a field related to nonprofit management or social services. Knowledge of Microsoft programs including Excel required.
