"Cotton Patch Gospel"

The following is a news release from Athens Academy:

"This show is best described as a bluegrass “ ‘Godspell’,  director Lorraine Thompson said. "It is the telling of biblical stories with a definite
southern twist."

The play is based on the book "The Cotton Patch Version of Matthew and John" by Clarence Jordan. It was originally conceived and performed as a one man play by Tom Key.   Key currently serves as the Executive Artistic Director for Theatrical Outfit, an Atlanta based theatre company.

"I am especially excited about this production",  Thompson said. "Most of the musicians in the band are Academy students."

The "Cotton Patch" Band consists of musical director, NeeCee Delk on piano, Chase Brantley on banjo, Ethan Jones on fiddle, Lucy Barsness on stand -up bass, William Leverett on mandolin, Caty Cowsert and Ben Hope on guitar. The show's company includes Anne Makenzie Woodruff, Katie Kenerly, Natalie Ray, Shane Patel, Josh Kundert-Gibbs, Ansley McAlister, Anne Lanier Gilbert, MacKinsey Cole, Sofie Wasserman-Smith, Taylor Payne, Karishma Sriram, Jennifer Cotton, Chase Brantley, Nick Bradfield, Max LoParco, Daniel Mason, Daniel Malone, Ben Burnum, Robert Leverett, Jason Hatfield, Ward Archibald, Chris Fernandez, Emily Cox, AC Kimsey, Elizabeth
Nacerio, Emmeline Hale, Alex Pate, and Kelsie Smith.

Show dates are April 28-30. Curtain is at 7:30 each evening. Admission is $2 for students and $5 for adults.
