PATCH PICKS: Best Places to Celebrate St. Patrick's Day

Don't forget to wear GREEN!

1) : Legend has it St. Patrick drove the snakes out of Ireland... Discuss snake species and bust a few myths, encounter live snakes, hike the turning-green nature trail, 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Bear Hollow Zoo,  free and open to the public.

2.) Melting Point (Athens)St. Patrick's Day Celebration featuring Irish band Ballybeg, special guests Calico Jig and The Drake School of Irish Dance, food and spirits on site, festive atmosphere, 6:30p.m. until 11 p.m.


3) The Georgia Club:
 Luck of the Irish Bingo Buffet Saturday; March 19; 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m.at the Clubhouse; dinner is Mulligatawny stew, salad bar, corned beef, baked chicken and assorted vegetables; $20; reservations needed, call (770) 725-8100.

4) Terry Kay reads from Bogmeadow's Wish:  Georgia author reads from his new novel, a love story set in Ireland, 7 p.m. at Barnes and Noble in Athens, be one of the first to buy a copy.

5) John McDermott at Festival Hall:  World-renowned Irish tenor performing at Festival Hall, beer and wine, all ages, $45-$100, celtic and pop music, beautiful location,  short drive, 8:00 p.m. on March 19.
