Oconee Today -- Oct. 2

Rotary Club, softball tournaments and a program on cancer and Relay for Life, complete with a screening of "50/50," are a few of the things happening in and around Oconee today.

Weather: After a rainy start to the week, the sun comes out and sticks around most of the day.  The high will climb back up toward 80 degrees, according to the Weather Channel.

Top things to know:

  • Every Tuesday the Rotary Club of Oconee County meets at 7 a.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center for a continental breakfast and presentation. Today's guest speaker is Hannah Anderson, a child advocate for the Cottage is a Sexual Abuse and Children's Advocacy Center. Guests are welcome to attend at a cost of $5 per person.
  • Activities at the Oconee County Senior Center -- Zumba Gold, a craft class, BINGO and a visit from AMVets. Call 706-769-3979 for more information.
  • All are invited to play duplicate bridge at the Watkinsville Community Center every Tuesday at 1 p.m.  Cost is $4.  The group also meets on Fridays.
  • Varisty softball tournaments -- OCHS heads to Hoschton and NOHS travels to West Jackson Park this afternoon.
  • The film "50/50" will be screened at Zell B. Miller Learning at 7 p.m. in room 248.  A presentation on cancer and Relay for Life will open the program, according to the UGA master calendar. Donations will be accepted for Relay for Life. See also "50/50" Offers Up a Cure.
