In honor of National Doughnut Day, which started as a Salvation Army fundraiser in 1938 to honor female volunteers who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I, Patch wants to know your favorite kind of doughnut. Tell us in comments below.  And swing by the new on Hog Mountain Road where customers will get a free donut with any drink purchase all day long.

Things to know:

  • The State Botanical Garden of Georgia hosts a and breakfast from 9-10:30 a.m. Cost is $10 for members and $12 for non-members.
  • Main Street will be hopping for the "School's Out -- Let's Play" event, according to the Oconee Enterprise.  The event, sponsored by the Watkinsville Trade and Tourism Association, is free and gets under way at 6 p.m.
  • The opening reception for the 2012 OCAF Members Exhibit takes place from 6-8 p.m. .
