A ribbon cutting, free gardening program and Board of Commissioners' meeting are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: Mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 90s are in the Weather Channel's forecast for today. Expect partly cloudy skies overnight and lows to dip into the mid 70s.

Top things to know:

  • Every Tuesday the of Oconee County meets at 7 a.m. in the Watkinsville Community Center for a continental breakfast and presentation. Today's guest speaker is Todd Long, Deputy Commissioner of Department of Transportation. He'll be speaking about the TSPLOST. Attendees.  Guests are welcome to attend at a cost of $5 per person.
  • The Oconee County Chamber of Commerce holds a ribbon cutting for at 10 a.m. The restaurant is offering a free donut with a beverage purchase all day in celebration. 
  • "," a free summer program offered by the State Botanical Garden, takes place from 6-8 p.m.  Meet at the Heritage Garden Gazebo.
  • At its agenda-setting meeting, the Oconee County Board of Commissioners will discuss setting of the 2012 Tax Millage Levy for Oconee County Government Maintenance and Operations.  The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the .  The complete draft of the agenda is attached as a pdf.
