Oconee Today -- Jan. 2

Prepare for cold temperatures and gusty winds.

Weather: Much colder temperatures are in the forecast for today.  Highs will be in the mid to upper 40s with sunshine and high winds.  Expect gusts of up to 35 mph, according to the National Weather Service. Overnight lows will drop into the low 20s.

Top things to know:

  • Oconee County offices are closed in observance of the New Year's holiday. They will reopen and operate under regular hours on Tuesday.
  • Rhaynen Michael Reese was the first baby born in Athens Clarke-County, the Athens Banner-Herald reports. His mother gave birth at Athens Regional Medical Center. 
  • The Georgia Bulldogs take on the Michigan State Spartans in the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Fl.  Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Go Dawgs!
