The country remembers Martin Luther King, Jr.

Weather: The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday will be sunny with high temperatures in the mid 50s. The National Weather Service predicts a 20 percent chance of showers overnight and lows in the low 40s.

Top things to know:

  • All county offices and Oconee County Schools are closed in observance of the holiday. The next school board meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 23 at 5 p.m.
  • There are still volunteer opportunities available if you'd like to participate in today's 10th Annual Athens MLK, Jr. Day of Service.Β  For more information and to see some of the projects that are in need of additional volunteers, .
  • The in Athens takes place at 3 p.m.Β  The race benefits Extra Special People, Inc.
