Oconee Today -- Aug. 20

Dierks Bentley, a blood drive and book fair are a few of the things to know about in and around Oconee today.

Weather: Partly cloudy skies and high in the low to mid 80s are in today's Weather Channel forecast. Overnight lows will be in the mid 60s.

Top things to know:

  • A book fair, staffed by volunteer PTO members, will be held at all week.
  • The University of Georgia Health Center hosts a blood drive for the American Red Cross from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Call 706-543-8656 for more information. 
  • Children interested in auditioning for the Athens Little Playhouse's upcoming performance of 101 Dalmatians should come to 191 Alps Road in Athens from 6-7:30 p.m. today and tomorrow.  For more information, email athenslittleplayhouse@gmail.com
  • The Good Ole Girls Outreach -- a free networking group for women -- meets from 5:30-7 p.m. at .
  • County star Dierks Bentley takes to the stage at UGA's Legion Field this evening.  The concert, part of the "Back to College" tour, starts at 8 p.m. and tickets may be purchased online.

Imagine that! A mockery of a representative calling an issue a mockery! How much of his outrageousRead More salary and benefit package is he willing to give up? And what he calls fact is seriously distorted information. Good leaders don't run and hide from an issue and then blame others for their shortcomings... I realize good leaders are hard to find.... but, why do we continue to tolerate mediocrity? A vacant seat would be just as effective as this congressman... actually, as I think about it, probably more effective.
