Oconee County 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Team Wins National Competition!

Competition in the 4-H Dairy Bowl encourages 4-H members to develop a more complete knowledge of dairy animals and related subjects.

From the Georgia 4H newsletter:

Congratulations to the Oconee County 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl team for placing 1st in this year’s national competition! This is the second win for Georgia in competition history and the first National Championship for Oconee County.

After placing first in the Georgia 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl in January 2013, the Oconee County team qualified to compete in the North American Invitational 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl. The competition was held at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, in Louisville, Kentucky on November 8-9, 2013. This was the 34th national contest and a total of 19 teams competed.

The Dairy Bowl is a contest where teams of four members compete against each other. Competition points are awarded for correctly answering questions relating to dairy topics such as: dairy production and management, breeds, feeding and nutrition, dairy products, health and reproduction. The competition consisted of three phases: a written test, team questions, and a toss-up round. The winning team was determined by the highest total score of all three phases.

Oconee Co. had tremendous success in the Written Test:  Godfrey Hendrix was High Individual, Colton Lowder was 5th and Jared Daniel was 9th.
