Flooding Occurs Along Watkinsville Streets

Be careful driving around Watkinsville.

Pools of rain water have gathered along several roadways and, in some cases, are spilling into the roads.

The video above, shot from the driveway of First American Bank & Trust on Bishop Farms Parkway looking toward Experiment Station about 10:15am Wednesday, July 10, shows a stream of water leading toward the Oconee Campus of the University of North Georgia.

Flooding was evident in other parts of town as well. Police closed the intersection of Main Street and Simonton Bridge Road just before 10am for about a half an hour due to water hazards.

Water covering the lawn of a home at the intersection of Second Street and Simonton Bridge Road resembled a lake, creating another hazard for motorists.

Another round of showers and thunderstorms passed through the area Wednesday evening, and the National Weather Service predicted new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch.

Rainy conditions are likely to stick around through Friday.
