2014 Small Business Summit offers powerful resources to local businesses

ATHENS, Ga. – Local businesses and nonprofit organizations seeking to learn, connect and be inspired are invited to register for the 2014 Small Business Summit taking place on Thursday, April 24 at The Classic Center.

More than 250 businesses were in attendance for last year’s inaugural event. This event, organized by Athens-based business consulting firm StartStrategic and presented by Charter Business, is a must-attend event for businesses of all sizes and ages.

This all-day event provides attendees a variety of educational breakout sessions, valuable resources, experienced speakers and great networking opportunities.

A number of partner organizations, including the University of Georgia Terry College of Business and Community Connection of Northeast Georgia, have worked alongside Summit organizers to produce a dynamic curriculum applicable to small businesses and nonprofit organizations alike. Session topics stay true to the Summit’s mission by promoting core business fundamentals.

A Small Business Resource Fair will take place again this year, allowing attendees to talk one-on-one with more than 50 local service-based industry representatives. Additionally, a free Job Fair and Career Expo will be presented by the Georgia Department of Labor for all local job seekers. Vendor booths for each of these events are available for purchase.

Derreck Kayongo, Co-Founder of the Global Soap Project, a multi-million dollar nonprofit venture, will deliver the Summit’s keynote address, “From Homeless Refugee to Social Entrepreneur.” Working to provide fresh soap to impoverished communities worldwide, Kayongo’s philanthropic efforts have led to widespread acclaim. In 2011, Kayongo was recognized as a “CNN Hero” for his outstanding contributions to society. This session will inspire attendees to overcome all obstacles in order to thrive and promote positive social change.

Registration for the summit is now open and currently only $79. Visit SmallBizAthens.com to register online, learn how to become an exhibitor or for more information.
