Celebrating the life of John McNally

On Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10 am, the Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission and friends of the late John McNally will hold a celebration in his memory at the recently designated John McNally Park (at the intersection of Highway 441 and Colham Ferry Road in Watkinsville). 

The ceremony will include comments by Oconee County Chairman Melvin Davis and former Watkinsville Mayor Jim Luken, the dedication of a memorial stone to honor John's wonderful service to Oconee County and presentation of the inaugural John McNally Environmental Stewardship Awards.  

For 18 years, John McNally served as Executive Director of Keep Oconee County Beautiful Commission (aka Oconee Clean & Beautiful).  Under John's leadership, KOCBC was recognized numerous times by Keep America Beautiful and Keep Georgia Beautiful including being named as the Keep America Beautiful Affiliate of the Year.

In 2006, John McNally was recognized as Keep Georgia Beautiful’s Director of the Year when he received the Barbara Mason Executive Director Award for his excellent leadership and service plus his commitment to the ideals of the Keep America Beautiful program.

In addition, the late John McNally was an outstanding member of the Oconee County community having served in many capacities including Executive Director of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the local Heart Fund Drive, Chair of the Oconee Fall Festival, member of the Northeast Georgia Regional Solid Waste Management Authority, member of the Georgia Recycling Coalition, etc.

John McNally successfully aided in the establishment of many programs and projects that continue to enhance the lives of Oconee County citizens including Herman C. Michael Park, the Oconee County Animal Shelter, the Bear Creek Reservoir, the Oconee County Solid Waste Management Plan, the “Pay As You Throw” Waste Reduction Program, and the Electronics Recycling Program.
