Oconee EMA Helps Injured Bicyclist on Heritage Park Trail

National EMS stabilized the patient, and she was brought out with the four-wheeler from the wooded area.

Oconee County Fire and Rescue came to the aid of a bicyclist who suffered a dislocated shoulder and concussion after falling from her bike on a trail at Heritage Park last weekend.

According to Fire Chief Bruce Thaxton, the woman's companion called 911 after the accident around 7:45 p.m. Saturday, May 18.

An EMA Polaris was brought in and firefighter Mark Capobianco also used his four-wheeler for the rescue. Rescuers entered at the rear of park through the County Landfill area, Thaxton explained.

"National EMS EMTs stabilized the patient, and she was brought out carefully with the 4-wheeler from the wooded area, put into the Fire Chief’s vehicle, and taken to the ambulance on Highway 441," he wrote in an email to Patch.

Oconee EMA had already planned a tabletop exercise for that type of rescue call.  It's scheduled to take place in June, Thaxton said.
