Groundbreaking Planned for Epps Bridge Centre
The shopping mall, which will include a 16-screen movie theater, is being built along the Oconee Connector Extension.
The Oconee Connector Extension has been open for a couple of months, and crews have been clearing trees for weeks at the site of the future Epps Bridge Centre. Now, according to an article in the Athens Banner-Herald, Bishop Company is preparing to officially break ground on the project Tuesday.
The $76 million retail development is happening on a 68-acre tract located along the new stretch of roadway. An estimated 22 commercial buildings are planned, along with a 16-screen theater that will feature state-of-the-art projection and stadium-style seating to accommodate almost 3,000 people.
Developer Frank Bishop said construction is slated for completion in summer of 2013.

Im glad that Athens will have another option for going to the movies, and hopefully we can get a Steak N Shake in there... Only thing Im not looking forward to is the congestion that is bound to come when this mall opens.
