Deputy Back On Normal Duty Following Shooting

Oconee County Sheriff Scott Berry said Sergeant Shane Partain is ready to serve the community.

Four days after the , Sergeant Shane Partain --the Oconee County deputy involved in the Feb. 17 incident-- has resumed his duties in patrol operations, his previous assignment. He was on his regularly scheduled days off until now.

"Partain is fit and able to return to duty, and he has a true desire to serve the citizens of Oconee County," said in a news release Monday morning.

Barrow County Sheriff's Office continues an external investigation with the cooperation of Oconee County Sheriff's Office, he said.

Berry had said an initial investigation determined Partain was of firing once at Andrew Mayerbach, who had held two women hostage and shot one in the foot before shooting himself in the head after being hit in the arm by the deputy's gunfire.

Investigations are ongoing, Berry said.
